The Difference Between Marketing and Sales

Those among First generation entrepreneurs who are starting up are in a stage of confusion between marketing and sales The goal of marketing is to educate and the goal of selling is conversion.

Broadly speaking; Marketing should define who you want to serve and how you will reach out to them.

Selling is about how you will connect with people who have decided that they like what you’re doing and would like to go further in partnership with you.

The simple way to think about it is that marketing is about educating the market. Selling is about turning that education into conversion. Marketing should present the consumer with an offer that meets his or her needs. At the right time and at the right place of sales opportunity.

The most effective marketing is therefore about communication, not manipulation.
